Skaven: Back to Warhammer Fantasy (Part 4)

If it seems like the painting of this model is dragging on a bit, well it is... but only because I've finally got myself a new job, the interview and preparation and stuff was digging into my painting time, but now I'm hired, so will be able to relax a bit.

On to the Skaven model. Ive finished the whole of the spear/halberd (not sure what it is exactly) using what I'm hoping is some fairly successful NMM techniques (still learning how to get it realistic) so until I have painted the flames I'm not sure where exactly I will have the directional lighting effects on the model, so that will all be added near the end of painting. Hope you like what you see, I'm extremely happy so far, and it's nowhere near finished.

Skaven: Back to Warhammer Fantasy (Part 3)

Done even more work to the model. I started doing some of the Gold and chainmail on the lower areas of the body. I made the chainmail look dirty by adding many different shades of browns and a bit of green. the gold guards on the feet have also had some green shading added, which works better than the dark brown/black, since it is an area very open to dirt and wear. Ive also done the tail and feet, using some dwarf flesh, as well as some highlighting with a light touch of red.

I really feel the model is coming along well, so I'm going to put a lot of effort into painting it to the highest standard that I can, looking forward to getting to the lighting effects from the flames.

Skaven: Back to Warhammer Fantasy (Part 2)

As promised here is a quick update on the skaven model that I've started painting. I've washed all the areas of the model, asurmen blue on the red parts, ogryn flesh on the skin and banners, the rest of the model was washed with devlan mud.

Ive also, for now, finished the red robe, I'm not sure if I will highlight it any further, I may wait until I've finished the armour then come back to it. Id explain how I did the robe but to be honest dont think I could. I used a variety of mixes including reds, browns and orange. I may also add some freehand design to the edging, but that will be a final touch to the model.
C&C welcome.

Skaven: Back to Warhammer Fantasy

After a fairly long break of painting anything from Warhammer fantasy, caused by the need to get some practice painting 40k I've gone back in time and thanks to a friend have got the new skaven hero model from the Island of blood box set (he has 4 of these guys). The last thing from fantasy I painted was a high elf mage so its quite the difference. From clean and fancy to rusty and rotten; should be fun!

I'll be updating the painting of this model as I go, so keep checking back to see more. I'll also add how I painted the different steps on the tutorials blog. Hereis my progress so far, doesnt look that pretty basecoated in all its glory, hopefully it will improve somewhat.

Chaos Dreadnough Conversion

Recently got a commission to paint this fantastic dreadnought conversion, that has so much going on its hard to no where to look. My client wanted a me to create the look that this is an ultramarine dread being taken over by chaos. easy enough if it was an ultramarine dread, but no it was a chaos dread, so chaos thats ultramarine taken over by chaos. Well in any case this is the result of the project.

As you can see the legs are very heavily converted, and could probably look a bit better, expecially leading up to the torso, so it was hard to paint effectively around that area. Using green stuff I added the fleshy areas to the model. The problem with making it look truly ultramarine is the huge amount of chaos iconography/skulls on the model. The client was very happy with the final result though and thats all that really matters.

Currently....

At the present I'm doing a bit of commission work hence the few updates, I've been given a very interesting challenge of painting a chaos dreadnought to look like an ultramarine dreadnought, being taken over by chaos... Interesting isn't it! I'm finding it to be quite the challenge, as it has to not end up looking like a thousands sons model. Hopefully it will be finished in 2 days and then I'll have some pictures up.

On another note I have added another tutorial to my sister blog about how to paint some good looking ork skin GO HAVE A LOOK.

Once I've finished this current commission work I will then be finishing of a tutorial that I'm doing on painting ork weaponry (rust, chipping etc.) Ive done a test and I'm very happy with how it came out and can't wait to share the results.

St. Celestine

Bought this model on ebay for a few pennies half assembled and mostly spray painted black, it also came with the larger base attached that seems to be sculpted using a bit modrock or something similar, but once I'd put some paint on it actaully looked really good. I used quite a lot of washes on the armour of this model to get the red hues, which I think came out really well. Do wish my abilities at taking photos would improve though, as they really dont do the model justice.

Astorath the Grim

This was a great model to paint and was my first go at doing a model in mostly reds, so I'm very happy with how this guy turned out. The images dont really show the highlighting that I've done on the red portions, so you'll just have to trust me, he looks good, especially next to the sanguinor. I'll be putting him up or auction on eBay soon. Enjoy!

The Sanguinor, Exemplar of the Host

Well on my current painting spree I could'nt help but have a go painting The Sanguinor; a model I've always wanted to have a go with. I decided to paint it as similar to the scheme shown on the games workshop website, but probably a bit quicker than they did, took me about 2 days I'd say which I think is quite quick considering its all NMM. I'm very happy with the results especially the sword which i've never painted this way before. If I had another go I would probably make the golds a bit brighter, with a more extreme highlight, and maybe spend a bit more time on the wings. I've also made a tutorial on how I painted this model which I'll be adding to the Novas tutorials blog soon, so please have a look, any feedback would be appreciated.

This model Is also on eBay so if your interested please have a look at The Sanguinor

Canis Wolfborn

Following on from my previous space wolves army I thought I'd have a go on a good old space wolves hero and who better than Canis Wolfborn. I painted him in a similar style to the previous SW's that I did, but used NMM techniques on the gold and silvers. The model is currently up for ebay, please have a look at Canis Wolfborn

Sanguinary Guard on their way out

WelL if anyone out there is interested in one of my most recently finished units, then they are currently up for auction on ebay. Please have a look and if you really feel like it have a cheeky bid. Here they are

sanguinary guard

Old Marneus Calgar

Well found this guy in an old box of warhammer I had in my room from when I was a youngster, he was a bit bent and such and I had to remove the banner pole. as a result I used him purely as a painting excercise for NMM and shading the armour successfully. I'm very happy with how he came out, and it only took me a couple of days to do.

Sanguinary Guard

Well Ive been into hospital recently after my appendix popped a little, so ive been recovering from that ordeal, I have since finished some more models though, and first of is a unit of Sanguinary guard. Originally I wanted this to be a spectacularly painted unit that I would put all my effort into so that I could gain some practice into the skill that is True Metallic Metal. The first model that I painted I went along that path, and put a lot of effort into blending the metals together. I was very happy with the results. more pictures HERE

sanguinary guard

But then i realised that it was taking far too long to paint, as that one guy took 3 days alone, and decided to get the rest done sharpish, and here is the result of that. its clear that the rest of the models are more sharply highlighted and a bit rougher around the edges, but as a unit I'm very happy with them I hope that you like them too.

The Army Marches Away

Well I'm extremely happy with the success of my first army, as it sold on ebay first time round with multiple bidders. It's a good feeling when your work is appreciated! Next up is a unit of sanguinary guard, im thinking I might use these as a base for a new army of blood angels, never really had a go painting red yet, so will be a good challenge. will have some pics up soon of the work so far, just a bit busy moving to a new flat, so there may be some delay.

The Army Marches Forth

Hello all, I've finished the space wovles army, and am very happy with the result, especially since it is the first that I have ever done. I tried to keep it close to the GW colour scheme, and just darkened the greys to a more heavy shadow grey. I've got them up on ebay and hope that they will sell well. Fingers crossed.
To finish the army off I added an extra dread, vindicator and 5 wolf guard terminators.

The next project is some more sanguinary guard, the plan is to paint these to a very high standard so i hope you like them.

Space wolves Army

Well I've been working quite hard on this army, its not quite finished yet, ive got a vindicator, dread and some terminators to finish. The pictures arent perfect and i will be adding some more up to date images soon. Most units have been painted to a fairly high standard but not to my highest as I'm hoping to get the army ready for sale on eBay.
